Spotted Towhee Painting and Information

Painting and article by Kathryn Mann

I love to photograph the birds of Oklahoma, but I also am an artist and paint some of my favorite birds This is the Spotted Towhee which can be found throughout Oklahoma. If you have not seen one in person that is probably because they are a very shy bird and spend the majority of their time hidden in dense thickets and shrubbery.

Spotted Towhee Painting by Kathryn Mann

They measure about 7.5 inches in length and have stunning red eyes. The male, which is represented in my painting, has white spots on his wings, a black head, back, and tail. It also has a white belly with brown on both sides. The Spotted Towhee is one of the largest members of the sparrow family.

Your painting could not have been more accurate!!!
Iam in Colorado, and have been watching this little guyin our Forsythia.
His call is what first cought my attention. I thought we had a hawk in the yard, and went to look. He is shy, and stays in the bush, but we put out a mixtureof seed, and he does eat the seed on the ground.
Thanks for helping me identify him.

Uplifting Visions
a guide to happiness, good health, and success
Charly Mann in a Hawaiian shirt
by Charly Mann

From the age of seven I have been enchanted with the idea of living happily ever after, and have made it a life quest to find that answer. I have spoken to hundreds of people – usually older and wiser than me, and read countless books and articles on the subject. In my website Uplifting Visions I share what I consider the best insights I have learned about achieving happiness in life.
